Help with researching Jewish genealogy

Question: Are there any companies or individuals that one can hire to assist in researching a Jewish family's genealogy?

Answer: I would recommend checking the website: http://www.jewishgen.org. The website contains many helpful links and databases that can assist in tracing ancestry and roots. There are also discussion groups that you can join. The people who belong to the discussion groups will probably be able to assist you in choosing a company or individual who will be able to assist you with this research. http://www.avotaynu.com is another website that might be of assistance in these matters. At the following website I found a list of people and companies that specialize in researching Jewish genealogy: http://genealogypro.com/directories/Jewish.html.

  1. A top-ranked source is "Tracing the Tribe: The Jewish Genealogy Blog" http://tracingthetribe.blogspot.com which covers Jewish genealogy news, resources, books, personalities, events, Jewish history, Jewish heritage, Jewish names, Ashkenazim, Sephardim, Mizrahim, food and everything else connected with Jewish genealogy.

SephardicGen.com with many unique resources and databases was created by award-winning author Jeff Malka ("Sephardic Genealogy," now in an expanded second edition).

Harry Stein's Sephardim.com has an excellent name engine with names indexed from many Sephardic sources.

Check out these three for many more resources.

For professional Jewish genealogists, search the Association of Professional Genealogists database www.apgen.org. Make sure the genealogist selected is specialized in the geographical areas of interest and has the languages to do that.
